Meet Shanice

This is Shanice, the newest addition to our fleet of misfit autos.  See here.  We acquired Shanice from our good friend Micah who recently moved to South Korea, officially making us once again a 2 vehicle family.  Shanice has quite a story to tell.  She was originally a raffle prize at a local grocery store (hence the Budweiser decals) won by one of Micah's friends.  She sat in this friend's garage unmoved for a year before she was sold to Micah.  Her name was originally Rodney (as in Dangerfield...Micah said it was because the scooter got no respect.)  Although a very catchy name, the scooter just seemed to be a girl rather than a dude.

So, who's Shanice, you ask?  Shanice Kobolowski is Uncle Buck's on-again off-again girlfriend in the classic John Hughes comedy.  I couldn't help but notice right away the similarities between the scooter and Shanice....they're both fiery redheads who like a few laughs and a night out on the town, maybe for a few Budweisers or to go bowling, and both likely have a hearty smoker's cough (the scooter does for sure after taking a beating on these roads, the real Shanice looks like she might to).  Hence, Shanice!

The original Shanice

Although Shanice is a fairly cool scooter, you may find this hard to believe but the actual riding of a scooter is wildly uncool.  In fact, I have found it physically impossible to sit on a scooter and look cool - I've tried slouching, leaning back, legs stretched out, everything.  It also doesn't help the cause that the helmet Micah gave us is a few sizes to small for my melon.

Now I know you're asking yourself...where do you find all this time to think about all these meaningless things?  Well, I'll tell you.  Shanice provides me with a seemingly endless amount of time to ponder things as we travel together at a max speed of 30mph.  And if we're traveling up any sort of incline (for example, the mountain we live on) Shanice and I have even more time to think about things at our max speed of 10mph.  It's hard to convey just how humbling an experience it is to putt along at 10mph up a hill, having to swerve and nearly put a foot down to keep the thing upright, getting a headache because the helmet's too tight,  and looking back to find 10 or so cars following close behind.

But Shanice and I don't care about all that.  We just laugh at all the poor saps following us as we gradually cruise along to the bowling alley for some Budweisers.
